In June, Modality Systems was pleased to be able to host a Microsoft-led Teams for Healthcare hack event in our UK Head Office in St. Albans.
As hoped, the event was an exciting fusion of ideas from some leading innovators in the NHS and healthcare technology space. Representatives from Microsoft included people from Redmond, such as Srini Surendranath, World Wide PM for Teams Engineering, and Kelly Limonte, PM for Teams in Healthcare. From the NHS there were 16 different representative bodies plus NHS Digital. There were also select Microsoft partners showcasing how Microsoft Teams can help the NHS meeting today’s challenges by enabling clinicians to collaborate in real-time around patient information and patient flows from data and insights across a variety of clinical systems—all in one secure hub that minimizes switching between apps.
You can read Kelly’s write up of the event on the Microsoft Industry blog.
Talking about consumer technologies and the risk of Shadow IT, Kelly says: “The NHS customers all agreed it’s vital to replace the use of consumer apps that are not compliant with PID.”
One key way in which Microsoft Teams can be used in the NHS is in the area of virtual consultations. Modality Systems believes that for these to succeed the enterprise capabilities of Microsoft Teams need to be fused with a consumer-friendly solution that doesn’t require additional apps or plug-ins to be installed. For a patient, the technology “just has to work”.
The challenge today is offering a consumer-friendly solution but without the inherent risks of a consumer app.
Modality Systems OneConsultation is a fully managed, customisable virtual consultation service that leverages your existing Skype for Business or Microsoft Teams deployment. It has been designed for use in the healthcare sector providing a secure virtual consultation room that a doctor can join using Skype for Business or Teams and that a patient can join via their web browser on either their smartphone, tablet or PC.
OneConsultation is available to NHS Trusts for a free 3-month trial to enable them to perform real-world testing and evaluation. It’s built on the Microsoft Cloud to ensure trust and security, and it uses standard Microsoft technologies that every NHS Trust has access to.
